A COLLECTION OF BRONZE & PEWTER SCULPTURES
One of the best ways to capture the motion of African wildlife is with a genuine van Rensburg bronze sculpture.
The sculptures are created using the lost wax casting process. In lost-wax casting, the artist starts with a model of the sculpture, most often in clay. A mold is made from the clay design. A hollow wax replica of the original sculpture will be removed from the mold. The artist can now correct any imperfections on the wax replica. Once the wax replica is ready, it is then coated in a “ceramic shell. The pièce is then placed in an oven, the wax melts and pours out of the shell – “lost wax” method. Molten bronze is then poured into the empty ceramic and left to cool. The ceramic shell is broken to reveal the bronze casting. The bronze sculpture is reworked before the final step – “patina”. Patina is applied by brushing various chemicals onto the metal, with or without heat. After final polishing, antique wax is applied to seal the bronze and stop the chemical action on the surface. This complete process makes every bronze unique and special.
